Cooper!

Welcome to the world little Cooper! My sister adopted this ten week old dauchund, which after three days of no-name was christened Cooper (a.k.a. Cooper the Pooper) after other choices of Checkers (Think Richard Nixon & Bribes) Duditz, Retard, Spas and Asswipe. I think he should be happy with Cooper the Pooper. Plus we can’t change his name now… we engraved it on a little tag for his collar. This past Sunday, our family went all nuts meeting the little puppy, and lets just say my big puppy was not very happy to have the critter in the house. Cocoa actually took it better than we expected she might, and all in all ignored it when she wasn’t going down on the boy. Yup… the gross and upfront… but dogs are dogs, and they sniff and lick and its their nature… Anyhoo, funny side story about Cooper today…. he apparently earned his name Cooper the Pooper when my sister left him in the bathroom while she went to work. Well, he pooped his ass empty today. And he got it everywhere, inside the tub, in the toilet, on the toilet, all over the floor, on the cabinets, and even in the sink… apparently Cooper is a Jumper and made it all over the place. When Kat’s boyfriend got home, he went to let Cooper out, and seeing the mess, closed the door, left a message on my sister’s phone saying “I’m going back to work. Remember, he’s your dog.” and left. I can’t blame him… I would have done the same exact thing. *g*
Anyways, I also have a couple pictures of Cooper the Pooper… he’s about seven inches off the ground, and weighs about seven pounds too… he’s precious when his bowels aren’t overactive!

Learn something new about The Plague

Plague is an infectious disease that affects animals and humans. It is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. This bacterium is found in rodents and their fleas and occurs in many areas of the world, including the United States.

Y. pestis is easily destroyed by sunlight and drying. Even so, when released into air, the bacterium will survive for up to one hour, although this could vary depending on conditions.

Pneumonic plague is one of several forms of plague. Depending on circumstances, these forms may occur separately or in combination:

Pneumonic plague occurs when Y. pestis infects the lungs. This type of plague can spread from person to person through the air. Transmission can take place if someone breathes in aerosolized bacteria, which could happen in a bioterrorist attack. Pneumonic plague is also spread by breathing in Y. pestis suspended in respiratory droplets from a person (or animal) with pneumonic plague. Becoming infected in this way usually requires direct and close contact with the ill person or animal. Pneumonic plague may also occur if a person with bubonic or septicemic plague is untreated and the bacteria spread to the lungs.
Bubonic plague is the most common form of plague. This occurs when an infected flea bites a person or when materials contaminated with Y. pestis enter through a break in a person’s skin. Patients develop swollen, tender lymph glands (called buboes) and fever, headache, chills, and weakness. Bubonic plague does not spread from person to person.
Septicemic plague occurs when plague bacteria multiply in the blood. It can be a complication of pneumonic or bubonic plague or it can occur by itself. When it occurs alone, it is caused in the same ways as bubonic plague; however, buboes do not develop. Patients have fever, chills, prostration, abdominal pain, shock, and bleeding into skin and other organs. Septicemic plague does not spread from person to person.
Symptoms and Treatment
With pneumonic plague, the first signs of illness are fever, headache, weakness, and rapidly developing pneumonia with shortness of breath, chest pain, cough, and sometimes bloody or watery sputum. The pneumonia progresses for 2 to 4 days and may cause respiratory failure and shock. Without early treatment, patients may die.

Early treatment of pneumonic plague is essential. To reduce the chance of death, antibiotics must be given within 24 hours of first symptoms. Streptomycin, gentamicin, the tetracyclines, and chloramphenicol are all effective against pneumonic plague.

Antibiotic treatment for 7 days will protect people who have had direct, close contact with infected patients. Wearing a close-fitting surgical mask also protects against infection.

We’ve all heard the addage, but we can all strive to learn more than one new thing. So i’m taking on a new project. Every week (hopefully) I will post something new I learned (either an article from online or quoted from a book) and a new vocabulary word… I am adding the vocabulary word so that maybe I’ll expand on my vocabulary even more! The next post I do will be the actual something new, to make it easier to search, etc.

So tonight I went to see Clerks 2. Two words: Fecking Hilarious. Sadly five minutes ago I had a huge idea for a post critiquing the movie, and it all just disappeared in the blink of an eye. So all you get are the two words for now. But maybe I’ll expand on it later.

*edit*: Just a quick thought: Loved LOVED LOVED the whole Star Wars/Lord of the Rings battle going on throughout the film!!! As a fan of both (and don’t ask me to choose: my icon may be Star Wars but my emoticon is Lord of the Rings) I nearly fell out of my seat in tears and laughter. More later…

Believe it or not, I haven’t forgotten about my blog… There hasn’t been any publically posted material in a while, mostly because I find myself venting and ranting and they really shouldn’t be public. So, nothing for the viewers. In the meantime, I’m trying to change some of my rants into publically available reading. I’m working on a massive “Banking ettiquitte 101″ post on the basics people need to know when entering a bank (like filling out deposit tickets, the basics of check cashing, etc). I also don’t believe in ranting about my coworkers in public, so you’ll never see that here.

On a totally other random note, I’ve been playing around a little with my photoshop, and made some more fandom buttons!! I’ve added another 25 to my page (found here) including Ever After, LotR and NCIS. Some turned out well, some were just okay, but what the heck…

i’ll also have to come back and tell you how horrendous my sister’s flight from the UK back to the US went so soon after the terrorist threat…. it was bad… very very bad.

anyways… *sigh*
